District 1 already has a lot worth building on — established neighborhoods, history, longtime businesses and commercial areas with room for new opportunity.

I want to see us strengthen what is already working, bring more activity and investment into areas that can support it, and make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

That also means asking whether the things we fund and the projects we pursue are actually doing what we expected them to do. Public investment should have a purpose we can understand and progress we can meaningfully measure.

Growth does not always have to mean transformation. Sometimes it means recognizing what we already have and finding the right way to build on it.

City decisions can involve a lot of money and projects that take years to complete. Before moving forward, I think we should be able to answer some pretty basic questions: What are we trying to accomplish? What will it cost? And how will we know whether it's working?

Plans can also outlive the circumstances they were created for. When something changes, we should be willing to look again rather than continue simply because a decision was made years ago.

That doesn't mean changing direction every time someone disagrees. It means paying attention, measuring progress and being willing to adjust when the facts tell us we should.
