Practical Leadership for District 1

Already trusted by voters. Ready to serve District 1.

Practical leadership means listening to residents, doing the homework on the issues, and making decisions that protect our neighborhoods and the future of Independence.

Local decisions shape the future of our families, neighborhoods, and our city.

I'm running for Independence City Council District 1, focused on transparency, infrastructure, and neighborhood accountability.

I’ve called Independence home for more than 38 years. I’ve raised a family here, built lasting relationships here, and watched our city grow and change. That long view shapes how I approach leadership — with care, perspective, and a commitment to getting decisions right.

My decision to run for City Council comes from a simple belief: local government should be steady, transparent, and accountable to the people it serves. Currently serving in my second term as an elected Committeewoman, I continue to represent residents of Independence while working to strengthen transparency, encourage accountability, and build trust through preparation, respect, and consistent follow-through. As an elected representative, I’m accountable directly to the voters of Independence, and that responsibility shapes how I approach transparency, budgeting, and long-term planning.

I take the time to read the details, understand the process, and listen before making decisions — because local leadership affects real families and real lives here in Independence.

How I Approach Leadership

Before I make a decision, I ask questions. I review the numbers. I study the long-term impact. I believe local government works best when leaders slow down enough to understand the details and move forward with clarity.

I’ve spent years paying attention to how systems operate — how budgets are structured, how policies are implemented, and how decisions ripple through neighborhoods. That experience has taught me that good governance isn’t dramatic. It’s disciplined.

I value respectful dialogue, careful preparation, and follow-through. Because when leaders are consistent and informed, the community benefits.

Rooted in District 1

Independence isn’t just where I live — it’s where I’ve invested decades of my life. I understand the character of our neighborhoods, the challenges we face, and the pride residents take in this community.

District 1 deserves leadership that pays attention to the details and respects the people who call it home. I’m committed to showing up, listening carefully, and doing the work that keeps our city strong.

Why I’m Running

Over the past several years, I’ve spent time studying our city’s budgets, long-term obligations, development agreements, and governance structure. The deeper I looked, the clearer it became: local government decisions carry long-term consequences — and they deserve careful review.

I believe Independence needs leadership that reads the details, understands the financial commitments, and asks the hard questions before votes are cast.

I’m running for City Council because I believe oversight  is not optional. It should be standard. When the process is disciplined and transparent, trust follows — and our city is stronger for it.

Lessons from Six Years of Civic Engagement

Over the past six years, I’ve spent hundreds of hours paying attention to how our city government actually works — attending meetings, studying policies, asking questions, and standing alongside residents who care deeply about the future of Independence and how we can improve it together.

Along the way, I was honored to be elected as a county committeewoman and to serve two terms, continuing my commitment to community involvement and responsible local leadership.

That experience has taught me a lot about leadership, accountability, and what it takes to protect the long-term interests of our community.

Some of those lessons came through important public discussions about development, city policy, and how decisions are made. Participating in those conversations — and working with residents who care deeply about our city — strengthened my belief that local government works best when citizens stay informed, engaged, and involved.

Over the years I’ve also taken part in citizen efforts, accountability initiatives, and policy discussions aimed at ensuring our city’s decisions remain transparent, responsible, and guided by the people they affect.

Transparency Builds Trust

One thing I’ve learned is that trust between citizens and their government depends on transparency. Residents deserve to know what decisions are being made and how those decisions affect their neighborhoods.

When information is shared openly and discussions happen in the light of day, citizens can stay engaged and government works the way it should.

What this means to me:
Government should operate in the open, and residents should never feel like important decisions are happening without their knowledge.

Process Matters

Many debates focus only on the final decision — whether a project moves forward or not. But over time I’ve learned that how decisions are made is just as important as the decision itself.

Clear processes protect everyone. They help ensure fairness, consistency, and accountability.

What this means to me:
When the rules are clear and followed carefully, both the city and its residents are protected.

Citizens Must Stay Involved

Local government works best when citizens stay engaged. Over the past several years I’ve seen how residents asking thoughtful questions and participating in the civic process can strengthen our community and help keep government accountable.

What this means to me:
An informed and involved community makes our city stronger.

Accountability Protects the Public

Cities make decisions that affect taxpayers, neighborhoods, and the future of our community. Those decisions should always be made responsibly and with careful oversight.

Accountability isn’t about conflict — it’s about protecting the public and ensuring government works the way it should.

What this means to me:
Leadership requires asking thoughtful questions and making decisions that serve the people first.

Long-Term Thinking Matters

City decisions don’t just affect today — they shape our community for decades. Growth, development, and financial decisions should always be considered with the long-term future of our city in mind.

What this means to me:
Responsible leadership means protecting the future of our community as carefully as we protect its present.

Moving Forward

These experiences have strengthened my commitment to our community. Independence deserves leadership that listens to its people, studies the issues carefully, and makes decisions that protect our community not just today, but for the future.

I remain committed to helping build a city government that is transparent, accountable, and focused on the people it serves.

Clear Direction. Real Accountability. Results You Can See.

District 1 deserves leadership that protects taxpayer dollars, strengthens oversight, and keeps decision-making grounded in principle.
